Steven Krichbaum was walking through the George Washington National Forest with his yellow lab mix Henry, when the two suddenly came upon a mother bear and her two cubs.

Because of her instinct to protect her cubs, the mother bear suddenly charged Krichbaum, and was ready to tear him to pieces. Krichbaum’s dog refused to leave his side, however, and was able to distract the bear enough so that Steven could hit her with a rock until she let both of them go.
