Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Some of them–like Jack–even have four legs instead of two. When the Humane Society in Pennsylvania found Jack, he’d been thrown into a dumpster and left for dead. They had no clue that rescuing him wouldn’t just save his life, it would save the life of a little girl, too.

Maya was born with a neurological disorder that affected her speech and left her susceptible to potentially fatal seizures. Her speech therapist recommended getting a dog for Maya to talk to, and that’s when the family found Jack recovering at the shelter.
